DAILY HABITS TO STAY ALIVE

The beginning of a mental health journey is thanks to acceptnace and asking for help. One of my earliest pieces, the perspective places the viewer in my footsteps, in my eyes. My hands and feet are colorful and in motion, but the pills are gray. However, the dull ovals and circles are necessary for survival.

Marking a long path of different medications, therapy styles, a few stints in institutions, and bad habits diguised as helpful ones, this piece is an homage to the human spirit, to the choices we make to “better” ourselves. At the time of this painting, I was numbed by anti-psychotics, anti-depressants, ant-anxiety medications.

Anti, anti, anti.

As my journey has progressed, I’ve stopped looking at help as a shame. I am pro therapy, pro medication, pro life, and am willing to do what is needed for a possible future.
