YOUNG LADY AND THE SEA

Inspired by a new love for fishing and an old hatred for Ernest Hemingway, this piece is one that represents the different levels of community. From animal to plant to microorganism, the flowing lines show the current of the water as well as the the DNA stands that bind us all.

Colorful, messy, and in the moment, “Young Lady and the Sea” follows the journey of a young woman in a patriarchal society, where many avenues for connection with nature are seeped in masculinity and boyhood. Reminding myself of my own role in the ecosystem and the social constructs that bind me, I can be as free as a fish or amoeba in the sea.
